Kelsey Thomas Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy

Welcome!

My name is Kelsey and I’m a Registered Psychotherapist from London Ontario who provides virtual therapy (through video call and telephone) to those living across Ontario.

Who Do I Work With?

Typically, I work with individuals (18+) experiencing anxiety (including general, death/health, and social anxiety), depression, ADHD, life transitions (e.g. starting post-secondary school, going through a breakup, etc.), stress/overwhelm, and low self-esteem. However, I also recognize that not everyone’s reason for seeking therapy falls into a specific category; because of this, I also welcome clients who are interested in starting therapy without a particular presenting issue, clients looking to engage in self-exploration, or anyone who just wants a safe and non-judgmental place to unpack all that’s going on in their lives.

If you are looking for support for something not listed above, feel free to send me an email and we can chat further to determine if we may be a good fit.

What Types of Therapy Do I Practice?

Most often I practice with an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Approach. Although the specifics of this approach may differ by person and presenting issue, it often includes helping you to gain distance from your thoughts so they feel less in control, clarifying your values, becoming more accepting of your emotions and thoughts, developing a more flexible view of your ‘self’, working on practicing a more present focus, and setting goals as a way to help engage in actions that align with your values.

Depending on your presenting issue or personal preference, we may also incorporate interventions or draw on principles from other approaches. For example, we may focus on developing distress tolerance skills and emotional regulation (from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy), examine what is already effectively working in your life (from Solution-Focused Therapy), explore the stories you construct about yourself and the world around you (from Narrative Therapy), or discuss information or common experiences associated with your presenting issue as a way to facilitate a greater understanding (also known as psychoeducation).

What is my Personal Approach with Clients?

Regardless of the specific therapeutic approach we decide to take, our work together will be grounded in collaboration, respect, and non-judgement. Additionally, I ensure that our work together includes an acknowledgement of both larger societal systems and cultural elements that exists in our lives (as well as how these may interact with our mental health). Ultimately, my goal is to create a space where you feel heard, hopeful, and safe, so that we can work towards achieving your goals for therapy.

I like to note that sometimes therapy can feel cheesy, overwhelming, awkward, or scary, so creating a safe and comfortable space for you as we navigate these experiences together is a priority for me. Through humour, genuineness, collaboration, and a non-stuffy attitude, I hope to bring a sense of ease to our sessions. Ultimately, finding a therapist who you feel you connect with is crucial; if you think we may be a good fit or you want to learn more, please email me at kelsey.thomas.counselling@gmail.com to book a free consultation!
